Why do people enjoy dancing?

All dances come from life, and in particular from human needs-celebration, relief of stress, awarding satisfaction, relaxation, balance, energy each day, a clear mind, happiness and healing. It reinforces our identities as a part of a social group and through it we express ourselves by communication with a universal body language.

What is Tango?

The origin of Tango is in people's souls. It is expressed when different art forms join together and when its music, poems and dance combine in spirit, rhythms, and melodies.

The socio-cultural mix was the origin of a musical melting-pot between the"candobe" of the ancient African slaves, the sensual "habaneras" from Cuba brought by the sailors covering the trade route between the Caribbean ports and the Rio de la Plata.

Originally the music was played by small ensembles, generally a guitar, a violin, and a flute, to which was added a musical instrument brought by German immigrants - the Bandoneon. The sound of this instrument has come to be identified with the tango

Just before World War I, the tango arrived in the European cities, and it became the rage in Paris. From there people who learned how to dance tango took it to Tokyo.

Between the late 30's and the early 50’s tango became known as "the Golden Age of Tango." It disrupted the cultural family ethics through public dances, thus becoming controversial and revolutionary.

It was considered part of the best popular culture under the Peronist's political movement between 1944 and 1955 but in the 60's it lost its luster to rock and roll and other musical dance forms. At the end of the 70's the composer and bandoneonist Astor Piazzola renewed it and introduced some aspects of rock and of jazz into his compositions.

Its popularity grows now perhaps due to the great wealth of choreographic variations and improvisations that it allows, as well as the touring shows that brought it to the public in the 80's and 90's.
